Trying New Things: Ziplining

So last Sunday, I went ziplining on a whim. Just for the hell of it. By myself.

Now this is not something I would ordinarily do, but I’ve made a commitment to trying new things and pushing myself outside of my comfort zone. And I’m so glad I did.

It was frickin’ awesome.

It took me a few tries to get used to braking with my hand. They give you this glove that allows you to slow down when you squeeze the zipline. So the first time, I hit the brakes too soon, and then I had to pull myself up to the platform. Ooops. (But hey, at least I got to work out my arms.)

The second time, I didn’t hit the brake quick enough, and I slammed the hell into the platform (and the guide) (sorry dude).

By this point, I’m pretty sure he was looking at me, thinking “okay, I don’t know if this guy’s going to be able to do this,” but on the next one, I finally got it down. And from then on, every course was amazing. I loved flying over the trees, over the lake.

There’s nothing more beautiful than a Georgia summer day, hot as it may be. And when you’re flying through the trees, you get a bit of a breeze, which makes it quite nice.

All in all, I would definitely recommend going ziplining. Even if you’re scared of heights, it’s a good way to conquer that fear. And we never know what we can handle until we try, right?
